Floral Inspiration: Sushi Made Out Of Flowers?

 

What an incredible window display this award-winning sushi floral design would make at our shop! 

This sushi flower arrangement is called "Dinner for One" by Christopher Grigas of In Bloom.  It won the 2010 top design award at the Garden and Flower Show at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York.

I wonder if I could make a breakfast flower arrangement?  Hmmm...

Pink and Orange Flower Arrangements

Pink and orange flower arrangements are one of my favorite color combinations. The look is so fresh and alive. A touch of yellow or green is also quite nice.

The same color palette is equally beautiful for decorating a room. It simply says spring whenever you see it. How can you possibly feel down in the midst of such beautiful colors.

 

I think I'll do a pink and orange window for the flower shop this spring!

How Do You Order Upscale Floral Arrangements Online?

If you want to send an upscale, designer floral arrangement to someone out of town, you may want to go through your local member florist who can use  B. Brooks Fine Flowers.

 Many boutique flower shops, like Fly Me To The Moon Florists,  are not affiliated with any of the popular flower wire services such FTD, 1 800 flowers, teleflora, or proflowers.

Here's why:

1. Their floral designs lack sophistication.
2. If they don't have the flowers needed to create a specific design, the finished flower arrangement may bear little or no resemblance, in style, to what you actually ordered.
3. Traditional wire services compete against actual flowers shops. They take their cut of your money off the top, leaving little to both create and deliver the flower arrangement you ordered. To make any money at all, many local florists will use cheaper flowers.
4. The wire service may be unfamiliar with the floral design work of the local florist, but give them the order anyway.

Which Flowers Would Be Best For A Ladies Luncheon?

Let's pretend you're hosting a luncheon for women business owners. You're responsible for selecting the centerpieces for the round tables. The tablecloths are a pale sage green. The dishes are white. All other colors used for the event will be selected from the colors in the floral centerpieces.

Review each flower arrangement below and select the one you think would make the best centerpiece for this special event. There are no wrong answers!

 

Arrangement A -  Hot pink roses, green spider mum, pink phlox, green hypericum berries, hydrangea and trachellium.

Tale #3: Why Are They Calling All The Way From Montana?

 

 

We got a call last week at our shop from Montana. Well actually 3 calls. Two of them before the shop even opened. The customer was skiing in Montana. I mean he was actually on the slopes when he called. 

His wife had ordered flowers for her mom several months ago. She loved them so much, she insisted that all of her flowers come from Fly Me To The Moon Florists.

They began calling early in the morning and wouldn't stop until they got us and placed the order.

I wish I had remembered to take a picture of the flower arrangement. It was a large cube vase overflowing with our finest orange and yellowEcuadorean roses, mango and yellow calla lilies, green hypericum berries and trick carnations, yellow pincushion, statice and craspedia. It really was gorgeous.

Shortly after it was delivered I got a call from the mother. She loved the flower arrangement. She wanted to know if we were the same florist that sent her flowers before. I explained that we were.

She asked where we were located and I told her we were in the downtown waterfront district of Yonkers near Manor House Square.

She then went on to explain that she receives lots of flowers from other Yonkers florists. She described their arrangements as "ordinary, using the same old flowers you see everywhere."  But that we were the "only florist in Yonkers doing this type of upscale work."

What a complement!

Floral Inspiration: Succulent Centerpieces

I love these succulent arrangements in silver champagne goblets. They can be clustered in the center of a table or lined up in a row. 

Put several succulents in a large silver bowl to make an even bigger statement.

Floral Inspiration: Teapot Centerpiece

 

 

This elegant yet simple teapot centerpiece would be great for a bridal or baby shower. It would also be fun for a luncheon or even a unique wedding.

If you hunt for these teapot sets you can find them inexpensively.  Or use a teapot on top of a small cake stand. Use different colors on each table to match your decor.

You can use roses or a mix of flowers like lisanthus, carnations, chrysanthemums, or alstroemeria in your teapot centerpiece.

Make a small bouquet of flowers in your hand, cut them short and place in the teapot of cool water. For a shallow teapot, cut a piece of wet floral foam to fit inside, then cut flowers and place them into the foam. Fill with water.
