Book Review: Flowers Cheap and Chic: Arrangements with Flowers Picked From the Market or Backyard by Carlos Mota
If you're looking for great ideas about how to incorporate flowers into your home on a budget, you will probably love this book as much as I do. As a matter of fact, I love it so much I wish I had written it myself.
This stunningly beautiful book is full of wonderful flower arrangements that will inspire the inner floral designer in you. Even if you think you don't have one.
It has loads of simple flower arrangements created in everyday cups, containers and vases you probably already own. His simple step-by-step directions make creating the designs a cinch.
This 288 page book is bursting with amazing quotes, helpful hints and good ideas about where to place flowers in your home. Flowers Chic and Cheap costs $25, but you can probably find it online somewhere for much less.
At Fly Me To The Moon Florists we believe that flowers should be:
- for everyday enjoyment
- simply and elegantly displayed
- accessible to everyone
- and affordable
That thinking is at the heart of Flowers Chic and Cheap. It's probably why I'm so crazy about this book. The idea that anyone can take a few flowers and make something lovely for themselves or others is possible. Just get this book and continue to read this delightful and informative blog. LOL.
The only thing I don't like about Flowers Chic and Cheap is that the author creates lots of flower arrangements in the book using peonies. Since there are so many pictures of them in the book, you might think you have easy access to them, but you don't. Though they are my favorite flower in the world, they are expensive, hard to find, and in season only in May and June.
I saw some beautiful peonies from New Zealand in the flower district this week, but they would retail for at least $12 -$13 per stem. That's a lot for the average person to spend on a single stem. Even though one stem in a vase would be gorgeous. We carry peonies in our shop only when they are in season or if a customer wants something extra special.
