You can save money and still have elegant fresh flower centerpieces for your wedding, special event or your home. You just have to approach the idea with a different mindset. Consider the 7 ways to save money on flower centerpieces below for your next celebration:
1 Be Open To all Kinds of Flowers - Even if you think you hate a particular flower, give the florist a chance to present a few suggestions. If you like the florist's work you may be pleasantly surprised.
People love to hate carnations, but many flower arrangements can be created using them tightly clustered. Check out this great flower arangement made from carnations at eddieross.com
2 Choose your flowers before your color scheme. - You probably think I'm saying this just because I'm a florist, but it makes sense. Brides make themselves crazy trying to find flowers that match everything else. You'll save yourself a lot of money, needless worry and work. if you begin with the flowers. Check out this article called, "Choosing Your Wedding Colors" for more information.
3 Choose vase carefully - Stop! Before you fall in love with that vase, measure the opening. The larger the opening, the more flowers you'll need. The more flowers you need, the more the flower centerpiece will cost. You will not cut the cost of your flower centerpieces by buying a vase with a big opening no matter what you paid for it.
I know what you're thinking! You'll just use foliage and a lot of filler. Not if you want an elegant flower arrangement. Because a little bit of flowers with lots of filler and foliage looks amazingly like a little bit of flowers with lots of filler and foliage not an elegant flower arrangement.
So, if you're buying your own vase select one with an opening of no more than 5 inches wide. You won't break the bank and your flower centerpiece will not look too skimpy or tacky.
4 Think simple and elegant - A simple bunch of beautifully coordinated flowers placed in a vase of water is a lot cheaper than a fussy arrangement in floral foam. So keep the arrangement simple and let the natural beauty of the flowers show. I create many complicated flower centerpieces, but you can't get an elegant one on a budget.
5 Consider making the flower centerpieces yourself - Or have a creative friend or family member do it. Choose someone who knows what they're doing. You should have seen something they may have done before. The person should have great design sense and be a bit crafty. You just don't want them making the first flower arrangement of their lives on your important day.
Read some of the posts I've written on floral design and flower care for step-by-step directions. Remember, you must get the flowers in advance and they must be cut and placed in water a couple of hours before they are arranged.
6.Use the same flowers and colors for everything. - If the florist must buy 5 different colored roses and 3 different types of foliage for your arrangement there may be flowers left over that cannot be used. But if you stick with one or two colors and types of flowers, they are interchangeable which means you'll get more "bang for your buck."
7 Consider using a single stem of an amazing flower. - You can do this yourself. Buy one great flower and put it in the perfect vase. If you have a table of ten you can get small vases and place them in a row down the length of the table. This is a unique yet cost-effective way to decorate a long table. And at the end of the event, 10 people at each table can take flowers home instead of just one.
These are just a few ways you can save money on your fresh flower arrangements. Please share your ideas about saving money on floral centerpieces.
