"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."
Henry David Thoreau
Orange, pink and green flower arrangement? "Yikes!" Some folks might say. "Those colors don't go together!"
But actually they do. Look at nature. Things grow in whatever colors they want. And they all work together and look great. Especially against the bluest of skies.
Sometimes you just have to forget the rules and go with your heart. It's your heart that informs your perspective on whether something looks good or not.
If you like it, go for it. Ignore that voice in the back of your head that keeps telling you that it doesn't make sense. That it doesn't go.
When my sisters and I were teens, my mom had a pair of orange mocassins. That's what they were called then. Now we call them loafers. We just called them ugly.
Every time my poor mom went to put on those shoes we begged her to pleasssse wear something else. But she loved them and wore them anyway. I get it now.
Those bright orange shoes made her happy. Made her heart sing. So why should she have limited herself to black, brown and navy when there was a whole world of colors to choose from.
So the next time you're choosing flowers follow your heart. And let the naysayers stick to their pastels.
What unusually colored thing do you get kidded about? My teen daughter doesn't care for my rather comfortable turquoise sandals.
